What do the four pillars represent?

Year, month, day, and time are not four randomly put together labels, but four layers of information with different distances. The closer you are to the Sun, the closer you are to the core; the closer you are to the outer layers, the more background and extension.

The four pillars are not as rigid as "the year pillar must be the ancestors, and the time pillar must be the old age". They are layers of information, not a single ID card.

When actually reading the tape, we rarely make conclusions based on just one bar. A more common approach is to first look at the background color on the month column, the core on the day column, the extension on the hour column, and the background on the year column, and then see if these evidences all point in the same direction. If multiple columns are consistent, the judgment will be stable.

The Year Pillar is the farthest from the Sun Lord, so it is often seen as a distant background: family atmosphere, early environment, external circles, and social labels. It can involve ancestors, but it does not mean looking only at ancestors. The information appearing in the year pillar usually needs to be read as background influence first, and then see whether it enters the core experience through the month pillar, day pillar or time line.

The moon pillar is close to the growth environment and carries the month and season, so it often determines the background color of a disk. Many judgments of strength, timing, and pattern cannot bypass the moon pillar. The moon pillar is not as simple as the "parental palace", it is more like the climate, order and early resource field of this disk.

The Sun Stem is the Sun Lord and is the center of chart reading; the Sun Branch is the environment under the Sun Lord's feet, often entering into intimate relationships, self-inheritance and inner experience. When looking at the Sun Pillar, you can't judge your marriage by just looking at one of the Earthly Branches, nor can you judge your personality by just looking at the Sun Pillar. Whether the daily stems and branches are mutually reinforcing, restraining, congruent, and conflicting is itself a set of important information.

The time pillar is often used to look at the future, children, works, long-term extensions and results. It is not simply equal to old age, but depends on how something will grow in the future. For example, in the career theme, the time column may show long-term output; in the relationship theme, the time column may show follow-up arrangements; in the learning theme, the time column may show the accumulation of results.

The year, month, day and time in the four pillars are the structure of the birth chart and are not equal to the passage of time in the Grand Canal. Do not mechanically read the year column as childhood, the month column as youth, the day column as middle age, and the hour column as old age. They have time images, but first of all they are structural levels. The real stage change requires the addition of great fortune and fleeting years.

Year, month, day, and hour do not cut life into four dead drawers, but four levels of information distance. The year is further away, the moon is closer, the sun is closer to the body, and the time is extending back. Different distances lead to different weights and readings.

Career, marriage, family, and wealth may all look for evidence across the pillars. For example, the relationship theme may look at the day branch, but also the financial official, food and injury communication, time column extension and yearly luck triggers. Don’t lock every question into a certain column.

A single column gives clues, multiple columns give structure. If the background of the Year Pillar, the climate of the Moon Pillar, the core of the Sun Pillar, and the extension of the Hour Pillar all point to the same theme, the judgment will be more stable. If they contradict each other, write the contradiction itself.
