What do the ten gods do in the horoscope?
What exactly are the Ten Gods?
The Ten Gods are the map of relationships between the Sun Lord and the other five elements. This article will further bring the concept back to structure, judgment and real-life scenarios.
Ten Gods is a relationship map
The Ten Gods are not mysterious terms, but the functional relationship between the Sun Lord and the other five elements. It helps you break down "I" and the external world into ten readable interactions.
How to understand the division of labor among the ten gods
Bi Jie favors the same kind and boundaries, Food and Injury favors output and expression, Wealth favors resources and exchange, Official Kill favors rules and pressure, and Seal favors support and absorption.
Learn the functions first, then the names
It's easy to get confused by just memorizing the names, but it will be much smoother if you focus on the functions first. You first know what it is doing, and then remember what it is called.
The ten gods are not absolutely good or bad
The same ten gods will behave differently when placed in different structures. The quality is not in the name, but in whether it is in the right place.
Why do the Ten Gods have to surround the Sun Lord?
The Ten Gods are not fixed stars, but have relative relationships. Apart from the Sun Lord, there is no such thing as calamity, food injury, wealth, official death, or seal. For example, the same "wood" may be Bijie to the Sun Lord of Jia Wood, Yin to the Sun Lord of Bing Fire, and Official Kill to the Sun Lord of Wu Earth. The names of the ten gods are not names of objects, but names of relationships.
The five groups of ten gods can be understood like this first
Bi Jie answered "How do I get along with others of my kind", Shi Shang answered "How do I output and express", Cai answered "How do I deal with resource and reality exchange", Guan Sha answered "How do I face rules, pressure and goals", Yin answered "How do I absorb, understand and gain support". Grasp these five groups of functions first, and then subdivide the pros and cons, which will be much more stable than memorizing ten names directly.
Right and wrong are not simply good or bad
Positive wealth is not necessarily better than partial wealth, official official is not necessarily better than Qisha, and correct seal is not necessarily better than partial seal. Positive side is more about the way of expression: stability or flexibility, order or pressure, regular nourishment or special absorption. When judging, you should look at whether it matches the sun master, moon order, pattern, and time layer, rather than whether there is "positive" in the name.
If the ten gods fall in different positions, their meanings will change.
The same ten gods are visible in the heavenly stems, hidden in the earthly branches, close to the sun, and far away in the year pillar, but they are read in different ways. The revealing branch is easier to express explicitly, the Tibetan branch is more like the underlying structure; the close position to the sun master makes it easier to enter the core experience, and the far position is more like background influence. The ten gods don’t just look at whether they exist, but also where they appear, how they appear, and whether they have root energy.
Ten gods should be read as sentences, not words
The mature judgment of the Ten Gods is not "you have wounded officials, so what", but "the food wounds in this plate are revealed in a certain position and are affected by a certain force, indicating that the output method is likely to appear in a certain form." Only by reading Ten Gods into a complete sentence will it naturally include conditions, positions and boundaries, and will not become a templated assertion.
The ten gods should be read as functional chains first, not as human characters first.
Bi Jie, Food Injury, Wealth, Official Kill, and Seal are not five scattered labels, but a functional chain: how do I stand up for myself, how do I express myself externally, how do I handle resources, how do I face the rules, and how do I absorb support. The deeper the Togami reads, the less he will stop at "You resemble a certain person" and start asking "How does this power work in the chart?"
In actual combat, we must first see which group is dominant
When reading the Ten Gods in full, instead of explaining all ten gods equally, you should first find out which group has the most dominance: Is there a certain group that appears repeatedly? Is there a certain group that gets Ling, Reveal, and Tonggen at the same time? Is there a certain group that doesn't appear much, but is stuck in a key position between the Sun Master and the Moon Order? Grasp the main group first, then the whole board will have the main line.
The ten gods in the same group should be divided into mature expressions and unbalanced expressions
A strong food injury may be due to high expression and production, or it may be impatience, conflict, and excessive consumption; a strong official injury may be a sense of order and goal, or a sense of oppression and long-term tension; a strong Yin may be learning ability and protection system, or it may be retreating into the comfort zone. Depth judgment is not to report the names of the ten gods, but to judge which level of expression this group of powers is currently at.
Ten Gods must eventually return to their real roles
After reading Ten Gods, you need to translate it into real-life characters and actions. Wealth is not just "money", it may also be projects, customers, life resources, and relationship management; official killing is not just "boss", but may also be rules, assessments, and identity responsibilities; seal is not just "reading", but may also be methods, protection, and support systems. Whether the Ten Gods can really be implemented depends on whether you can complete this step of translation.
