What does "positioning" mean in astrology?

Many people say "I have such-and-such configuration", but a configuration is not an isolated label. A complete configuration at least includes: which planet, which sign it is in, which house it is in, who it is in aspect with, how closely the aspect is, and what the weight of this planet is in the entire chart.

Just saying "Venus in Aquarius" or "Moon in the 8th house" is an incomplete message. They are just part of the configuration.

The planets illustrate what functions are at work. The Moon rules security, Venus rules values ​​and attractions, Mars rules actions and desires, and Saturn rules responsibility and structure.

The zodiac sign indicates the style in which this function is expressed. For example, Mars in Aries and Mars in Libra are both about action and conflict, but one is more direct and the other cares more about relationship balance.

The house position indicates in which area of life this power appears. With Mars in the tenth house, action is more likely to be directed toward career and public status; with Mars in the seventh house, conflicts and advancements are more likely to manifest through relationships.

Aspects describe how this force interacts with other functions. When Mars squares Saturn, there may be resistance and training in action; when Mars trines Jupiter, it is easier to gain faith and expansion in action.

Not every configuration is suitable for writing the main conclusion. The weight depends on whether it is in an angular house, whether it is closely aspected, whether it involves the Sun and Moon ascending lord, and whether it points to the same theme with multiple pieces of evidence.

If a configuration appears only once, it is probably just a reference; if it is repeatedly supported by houses, aspects, house rulers, and transits, it is more central.

The same configuration behaves differently on different disks because its environments are different. If Venus in Scorpio is supported by Saturn, they may be affectionate and stable; if they are strongly triggered by Uranus, they may both desire depth and fear losing freedom; if they are in the twelfth house, their love may be more secretive or idealistic.

Configuration is not a fixed command, but is placed on the entire disk for specific performance.

When you see a configuration, break it down in six steps: what is the function of the planet; what is the style of the constellation; what is the scene of the house; what is the interaction of the aspects; whether the weight is sufficient; whether the real experience supports it.

Only those who can pass these six steps of configuration are suitable for writing the main conclusion of the report.
