What is the difference between sun, moon and rising?

The Sun, Moon, and Ascendant are often called the Big Three, because they represent three very basic operating systems respectively: the Sun is self-identity and life direction, the Moon is emotional security and instinctive needs, and the Ascendant is the way into the world and the starting point of the entire disk.
